Lepakshi, a small village along the Karnataka Andhra Pradesh border, hosts this Vijayanagara style temple. This temple hosts lord Veerabhadra along with Ganesha, Nandi, Shiva, Bhadrakali, Vishnu, and Lakshmi.
This temple is believed to be built on the spot where Jatayu fell fighting Ravana in the epic Ramayana. It's believed that Ram said, Le Pakshi which means rise bird in Telugu.
The temple is built on a hill called Kurmasailam which means tortoise hill in Telugu. The current structure was built around 1583 by Virupanna and Veeranna brothers, and its believed that the original temple was built by sage Agastya. It's actually a nice option to go in history by building a temple. No one will remember these brothers for anything else but for this temple.

The Nandi is the biggest monolithic Nandi in the world. Its located opposite to the lingam over the snake structure inside the temple complex.
